Jakarta Smart City Government and Spatial Pleasure Signed Memorandum of Understanding for Joint Analysis on Traffic Congestion Resolution through Transportation Carbon Credit Certification

Spatial Pleasure (Operating Company: Spatial Pleasure Co., Ltd.; Head Office: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Soma Suzuki), in collaboration with Jakarta Smart City (Communication, Information, and Statistics Department, Jakarta Provincial Government), has signed an MOU for the joint analysis of traffic congestion in Jakarta.

On May 24, 2023, Spatial Pleasure Co., Ltd. and Jakarta Smart City signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the joint analysis of traffic congestion. The MOU was signed in the presence of Yudhistira Nugraha, Head of Jakarta Smart City. Jakarta Smart City is a government-led organization launched in 2015 to address urban issues by facilitating data coordination among multiple government departments under the Jakarta Provincial Government’s Communications, Information, and Statistics Division.

Background of this Initiative

Jakarta is one of the most congested cities in the world. Jakarta residents make 33,240 stop-and-go trips per person per year, spending an average of 10 years of their lives in traffic jams. It is estimated that 70% of Jakarta’s air pollution is caused by cars, making the resolution of traffic congestion a crucial national-level issue*.

To address traffic congestion, Jakarta has been actively pursuing Transit Oriented Development (TOD) in recent years, primarily through the development of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems and Light Rail Transit (LRT) systems. Spatial Pleasure is developing DMRV software to evaluate the environmental benefits of transportation modes such as buses and shared bicycles and issue carbon credits accordingly. Through this collaboration with Jakarta Smart City, Spatial Pleasure will engage in simulation and environmental benefit assessments for large-scale urban development within the framework of TOD.
